Oak Ridge North City Council to discuss new water, sewage project, waste management services

The Oak Ridge City Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at city hall at 27424 Robinson Road.
City Manager Vicky Rudy said a few significant items that will be discussed at tonight's meeting include a new water/sewage project on Blueberry Hill and on Hanna Road.
Rudy said the council will also discuss the proposed 2013 tax rate and budget.
"We are continuing conversations on the budget and fine-tuning final approval, which will be on Aug. 27," Rudy said.
She said the city is also looking at "revamping" its waste management service, which is currently a two-day program, and turning it into a one-day combination garbage and recycling program.
"Waste Management would take over our recycling and we'd pay for that service," Rudy said.
She also mentioned there will be discussion on the creation of two new city positions created beginning the month of October.
"These are not new positions; we're just reorganizing," Rudy said. "They're management-oriented and will be promotions from within for a new construction superintendent and a field superintendent."
Rudy said one of the items discussed would be a proposed project with NorthStar Traffic Technologies, concerning whether to add a link to the Robinson Road and Patsy Road intersection, as well as the intersection at Robinson Road and Hanna Road.
"It won't improve the traffic, but it will help us to get a bigger, better grip on the traffic going through there and to make steps later," Rudy said.
