Deadline nears for May election application

The deadline is approaching for those who are looking to join one of the three local government races this spring. March 5 is the last day to file to run in the elections for The Woodlands Township, the City of Shenandoah and the City of Oak Ridge North.

All three elections will be held May 12. Residents filing to run for office must be residents of the respective city or, in The Woodlands' case, the township.

Positions up for election on The Woodlands Township Board of Directors are 1, 2, 3 and 4. Position 1 is currently held by Claude Hunter, Position 2 by Tom Campbell, Position 3 by Lloyd Matthews and Position 4 by Dr. Ed Robb.

Qualifications for a Township Director are applicants must be 18 years of age, a resident of the township for six months and a resident of Texas for 12 months. Applications may be filed or mailed to the offices of the township at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., The Woodlands, TX, 77381. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

In Oak Ridge North, Place 1, currently held by Tom Coale, Place 2, held by Al Stahl and the city's mayoral seat, held by James Kuykendall, are all up for election this year. Each position carries a two-year term.

Applications may be mailed to City Secretary, City of Oak Ridge North, 27424 Robinson Road, Oak Ridge North, TX 77385. In-person applications are also accepted at City Hall at 27424 Robinson Road.

The City of Shenandoah will hold an election for its mayor and council positions 1 and 5. Garry Watts serves as the city's mayor, while Gary Henson is the Position 1 councilperson and Jason Frazer holds Position 5.

Applications may be mailed to or dropped off at City Secretary, City of Shenandoah, 29955 I-45 N., Shenandoah, TX 77381. City hall office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
