Following the results of the 2010 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau named the geographic region that includes Conroe and The Woodlands as a Large Urbanized Area, or UZA. The UZA includes the city of Conroe, The Woodlands Township, cities and unincorporated areas of south Montgomery County.
What does it mean to be a UZA?
Being designated as a UZA allows The Woodlands and Conroe to receive Federal Transit Administration grant funding for public transportation projects. Prior to receiving grant money from the FTA, the city of Conroe and the township had to name a designated recipient to apply for, receive and allocate money for transit projects. In 2013, Conroe and The Woodlands agreed that each would be a designated recipient.
What can the money be used for?
