Four Montgomery County nonprofits to distribute $18 million for rental assistance

Following a Commissioners Court meeting March 23, four Montgomery County nonprofits will be charged with distributing around $18 million in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Treasury to help with rental assistance programs across the county.

According to Rebecca Ansley, Montgomery County community development director, the four nonprofits are Interfaith of The Woodlands, Community Assistance Center [Crisis Assistance], Society of Samaritans and Easterseals of Greater Houston.

“They are putting in a request to the county, and based on that, we are going to get with the attorney to get a contract together,” Ansley said. “That is just the first round of funding.”

Ansley said the county residents who have been waiting the longest for rental aid will be the priority for assistance. Once those have been helped, Ansley said, her department will get with the nonprofits and see if more money needs to be requested.

“Residents will be put with the nonprofit in their ZIP code, and we have that list in our database,” Ansley said.

Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack thanked the nonprofits that came together and put a plan together quickly.

“I cannot wait for you to come back and tell us how successful you were at getting it done,” Noack said. “Thank you for working so hard and so quickly to put this together.”

Commissioners unanimously approved the rental assistance plan as it was presented during the March 23 meeting.
