The inaugural Piney Woods Film Festival will spotlight 64 feature films and documentaries by local and international filmmakers June 11-13 in its first showcase.
Hosted at Lone Star College-Montgomery, the festival spans three days with each day presenting a full itinerary to attendees, according to a news release.

The setup
The scheduled lineup includes multiple showings of various productions followed by Q&As with their respective filmmakers, as well as live music and social events. A special guest panel, VIP mixer and an awards ceremony are slated to close out the festivities on Day 3, according to the official schedule.
The showings, curated into two-hour block sessions, will feature films from around the globe, including shorts, trailers, documentaries, feature-length films and independent projects produced by experienced and emerging filmmakers.
Piney Woods Film Festival cofounder and director Justin Woods said the festival received so many submissions that the organizers had to narrow the field to a few dozen films.
“We received 132 submissions from 12 different countries. We also contacted students to see if they would be interested in submitting any projects,” Woods said. “High school students were able to submit for free, whereas college students had to pay. Of those 132 submissions, we reduced it down to 64 films.”
A sneak peek
The three-day excursion is not just about storytelling on the big screen.
Student musicians from the Sarah Kelly Music School are scheduled to perform live between film blocks inside the festival’s main lobby. In the same place, attendees will also be able to experience a traditional art installation presented in partnership with The Woodlands Arts Council.
On Friday only, attendees are encouraged to participate in one of two planned mixers featuring The Woodlands Symphony. The Evening Mixer with Live Brass is presented by the John Cooper School and is included in festival admission, according to site details.
The VIP Filmmaker Mixer is set to take place at Amerigo’s Grille on 25250 Grogans Park Drive, The Woodlands. Following this event, the Red Carpet Awards Ceremony will be held at the Kevin Brady Community Center at 2250 Buckthorne Place, The Woodlands, where admission is free for guests, though registration is required online, officials said via news release.
Can’t wait?
The address for the Lone Star College-Montgomery Recital Hall is Building H, 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe. Each day of the Piney Woods Film Festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 11 p.m.
Tickets officially went on sale in mid-April. Attendees can purchase tickets starting at $25, with a discounted ticket rate being offered to students with their student ID and to senior citizens.
