The Patsy Cline tribute "Always Patsy Cline" featuring Kelley Peters was driven by Peters’ household of musicians and her background in choir, orchestra and theatre, she said.
It was also inspired by her education at Sam Houston State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in musical theater. The band is performing at the Dosey Doe-The Big Barn on March 22.
How did you first get into music, and what drew you to the genre you play?
The universal outreach and collective connection drew me to the music and impact of Patsy Cline. With inspiration from my father and uncle, I have always had a passion for country, western swing and rockabilly music, but I believe Patsy Cline extends way beyond that box and particular category of music. That genre was the vehicle and where she felt the most confident, but her power was how she could take any piece of music and perform it like it was sung for the first time in the most authentic way. I believe that honesty comes from completely knowing yourself and caring for yourself through good times and bad. Patsy’s history included much hardship, and it was up to her to be able to persevere and move forward toward what she wanted to experience and conquer in this life.
