Lone Star College receives $2.7 million grant to aid Conroe students

Lone Star College has received a $2.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to better serve Hispanic students in the Conroe area.

According to a press release from LSC, the grant funding will go to outreach activities to encourage student interest in higher education.

"We will be establishing a Maverick Outpost near public transportation in the greater Conroe area to serve as a one-stop shop for students interested in Lone Star College,” said Michael Krall, LSC-Montgomery special assistant to the president, in the release. “This new location will offer outreach activities to encourage interest in higher education as well as assist first-generation college students in navigating college.”

Programs will be based at the Maverick Outpost to reduce the geographic and psychological distance between the Conroe area and the main college campus.

The grant funding for LSC is scheduled to begin Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 30, 2025.

The press release states LSC-Montgomery will use this grant to increase enrollment and improve persistence rates among the underserved areas in the greater Conroe area, particularly among Hispanic students.
