Montgomery County's active COVID-19 case count remains near 6K; 10 new deaths reported Feb. 1-3

Montgomery County's active COVID-19 case count remained below 6,500 over the first days of February, as falling hospitalizations and continuing recoveries were accompanied by 10 new reported deaths related to the disease.

As of Feb. 3, 6,054 COVID-19 cases were active in the county, according to the Montgomery County Public Health District. The number of active cases has fluctuated between 6,000 and just over 6,400 since last Friday, but the county's active case total has remained below 6,500 over the course of several days for the first time since late December.

The county also surpassed 40,000 cumulative cases this week, as several hundred cases first identified since Jan. 21 were added to the count Feb. 1-3. A total of 40,601 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the county as of Feb. 3.

Several hundred new clinical recoveries were confirmed Feb. 1-3, and just over 19,000 resident recoveries—46.92% of all county cases—had been reported as of Feb. 3. Resident hospitalizations from COVID-19 rose briefly over the weekend to 87 before falling to 60 as of Feb. 3, the lowest daily count reported since early January.

Ten new deaths related to the disease were reported Feb. 1-3, including men and women from Conroe, Kingwood, Porter, Spring and Willis ranging in age from their 50s to their 90s. A total of 221 resident deaths related to the disease have now been reported in the county.

Overall general and ICU bed usage in county hospitals, regardless of patients' residence, held relatively steady Feb. 1-3 as compared with previous days. Since Jan. 29, between 172 and 183 general beds have been in use for confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients, while ICU bed usage for COVID-19 patients shifted between 57 and 58 beds over the same days.
