Conroe ISD sees COVID-19 case reports climb with second semester underway

Less than two weeks into the second semester of Conroe ISD's 2020-21 school year, hundreds of new positive COVID-19 case reports have been logged among district students and staff.

According to case report data available on the district's COVID-19 dashboard, just over 20% of cases identified this school year were reported within the past two weeks alone. Cases are added to CISD logs after the district receives notice of a positive COVID-19 test, including employees and student enrolled in person and remotely.

A total of 2,216 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported to CISD since the school year began Aug. 12, including 1,529 among students and 687 among employees. Through the first semester—including weekends and holidays—925 students and 407 employees were listed with positive case reports.

Positive case reports for 363 students and 96 employees have been logged since the second semester began Jan. 6, while 241 student and 184 employee case reports were logged during the district's winter break.

As of Jan. 14, 236 student cases and 97 employee cases remained active. A total of 1,468 students and 325 employees were absent in isolation or quarantine as of Jan. 14 due either to testing positive for COVID-19 or being in close contact with someone who tested positive.

The district's recent rise in positive case reports marks a similar trend to that of Montgomery County as a whole. An ongoing rise in daily active case counts and hospitalizations among county residents has continued from December into early January, with a record 10,774 active cases and 79 resident hospitalizations reported Jan. 14.
