Cravens Road could see changes in early 2027 with a proposal to redesignate a portion of the roadway to one way.
In a nutshell
At a July 20 meeting, Missouri City City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to redesignate approximately 700 feet of Cravens Road between Hwy. 90A and the nearest private driveway from a two-way street to a one-way northbound street.
Why it matters
The area, which houses an at-grade railroad crossing near an industrial park, has seen several 18-wheelers struck by trains at this location with seven train collisions reported between 2021 and 2025, City Engineer Vincenzo Corazza said.
Four additional crashes have been reported by the Missouri City Police Department.

"A big kudos goes out to council member [Monica] Riley ... she laid down her gauntlet and she did she could to do her best to keep this road open," council member Sonya Brown-Marshall said. "But in the end, we know that this is what is best for our citizens."

A second reading of the ordinance is set to be considered at a future City Council meeting, Corazza said.
The Texas Department of Transportation has proposed a spring 2027 start time to begin collecting bids to turn the road to one way. TxDOT will fund the $500,000 project.
