Design work will soon begin on the second phase of Sugar Land’s Sweetwater Boulevard reconstruction project.

At an Aug. 4 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved a $677,329 design contract with Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering LLC for the second phase of the Sweetwater Boulevard reconstruction project.

The project's second phase will reconstruct select concrete pavement panels between Hwy. 59 and Palm Royale Boulevard, per agenda documents.

The funding
Construction will be jointly funded by Fort Bend County’s $865.6 million mobility bond approved by voters in November 2023 and the city's $350 million general obligation bond approved by Sugar Land voters in November 2024, per agenda documents. However, the county will cover all of the design costs.

City Council approved a $425,053 design contract with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. in April for the first phase of the Sweetwater Boulevard reconstruction project between Austin Parkway and Palm Royale Boulevard, Community Impact reported. Design on the first phase is expected to be completed in May 2027.
Looking ahead
Design for the second phase is expected to begin in September 2026 with completion slated for September 2027, per agenda documents.
