Missouri City officials are taking steps toward new road and city improvement projects.
In a nutshell
At a Nov. 2 meeting, Missouri City City Council authorized staff to acquire land needed for four projects for city services or public improvement.
Projects include:
Land on Texas Parkway for city services
Water Transmission Main Easements Project
Henry Watts Road - Knight Road Roundabout Project
Henry Watts Road East Extension Project
The projects
Texas Parkway
City officials are looking to acquire land within a three-mile radius of Missouri City City Hall to expand city services in the area, including Texas Parkway.
The agreement—effective Nov. 3—authorizes George E. Johnson Properties to act as the city’s real estate agent in acquiring the land, according to agenda documents.
Water Transmission Main Easements Project
City officials seek to acquire seven pieces of land needed to build a water transmission line that would improve water availability, per agenda documents.
The water lines would provide surface water to the Mustang Bayou Service Area, which would reduce the service area’s reliance on groundwater and help prevent subsidence. Groundwater is more expensive than surface water, and excessive pumping of groundwater can cause land to subside, according to the city’s website.
Henry Watts and Knight roads roundabout project
The intersection of Knight Road and Henry Watts Road will get a roundabout to reduce congestion caused by recent surrounding projects, including the development of Town Center III.
Henry Watts Road East Extension Project
Henry Watts Road will extend eastward, connecting Knight Road to Shipman’s Cove Boulevard through a project between Missouri City and Fort Bend County, per agenda documents.
Looking ahead
City staff could not provide a timeline for the projects, but all four are in the design phase.
