Missouri City City Council approves police, firefighter pay increases

As part of a citywide effort to continue retaining and attracting police officers and firefighters, Missouri City will increase pay beginning in May.

Missouri City City Council approved the second reading of an ordinance to increase pay for city police and firefighters at an April 22 special City Council meeting, following the first reading April 15.

Pay increases are slated to be up 4.4% for police officers with a new base of $68,110 and up 2.4% for firefighters for a new base $61,936, according to agenda documents. The last pay increase, which was approved in May 2023, set bases for police and firefighters at $65,237 and $60,484, respectively.

The pay plan bump will cost the city an additional $995,587 annually, though it will be prorated for the ongoing fiscal year 2023-24 budget at $421,210, according to agenda documents.

The pay increases come after a late 2022 and early 2023 two-phase salary study showing a majority of city employee salaries were at the bottom of the area market, Community Impact reported.

Looking ahead

The new pay provisions for police and fire will go into effect May 5; employees can expect to see increases on May 24 paychecks.
