An organic grocery store could come to Missouri City following a zoning change.

At its June 1 meeting, Missouri City City Council approved an ordinance to change the zoning of approximately 13 acres of vacant land at the northeast corner of Vicksburg Boulevard and Hwy. 6, south of Trammel Fresno Road from a suburban district to a planned development district to permit commercial and retail uses.
The details
Assistant City Manager Shashi Kumar said the proposed development by Kimley Horn & Associates could feature an organic grocery store, multitenant retail spaces and seven outparcels for future development.
Some of the proposed uses of the additional retail space includes office buildings, barber shops, drugstores and a furniture store.
However, Kumar said as part of the agreement gas stations and repair shops visible to the public are not allowed, and at least one table-service restaurant is required to be on the premises.

The development would also feature a unified architectural theme, promote walkability for residents, connectivity between buildings, outdoor seating and recreation as well as landscape improvements, per agenda documents.

Missouri City officials said there is not an identified construction timeline as the applicant will need to complete additional requirements including platting and permit applications.
