Houston City College has partnered with Tesla Inc. to strengthen Houston's workforce and expand career pathways in advanced manufacturing, officials announced in a May 12 news release.
The big picture
The partnership was expanded through a memorandum of understanding May 12, after officials celebrated the graduation of the pilot cohort of students at the Stafford campus.
The program will now expand enrollment to 250 students through the remainder of the year, per the release.

“This partnership reflects Houston City College’s commitment to building strong industry connections that create meaningful career opportunities for our students and community,” HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher said. “By partnering with Tesla, we are taking a leading role in meeting the demands of today’s advanced manufacturing industry for our region.”
Looking forward
The first 12 graduates who earned their certificates of completion will work at Tesla's Megafactory Texas in Brookshire, per the release.
The megafactory is expected to bring 1,500 manufacturing jobs to Waller County, Community Impact previously reported.
