Fort Bend ISD names new chief academic officer

Fort Bend ISD has named a new chief academic officer.

Kimberly Lawson was named to the position by the district’s board of trustees during its March 7 meeting.

Lawson comes to the district with almost three decades of educational experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, campus principal and in various central office leadership roles, according to a March 7 news release. Lawson presently works as the executive director of elementary teaching and learning in Katy ISD, where she has worked since 2003.

“I am committed to achieving the best educational experience for all Fort Bend ISD students,” Lawson said. “Early in my career, I learned the importance of making decisions based on what was best for students, and while it is not always easy to do, it is vital for student success.”

In Katy ISD, Lawson has additionally served as the director of secondary instruction; director of professional learning; and director of research, assessment and accountability.

“I am excited that a leader and educator of Dr. Lawson’s caliber has elected to join us here in Fort Bend ISD,” FBISD Superintendent Christie Whitbeck said in the news release. “I have great confidence in her ability to collaborate effectively with our team and to be innovative and inspiring as she works to serve our students, staff and parents.”
