Fort Bend County reports 100th coronavirus-related death, sees hospitalizations decline July 27-Aug. 1

Fort Bend County Health & Human Services reported 661 coronavirus cases during the week of July 27-Aug. 1.

Furthermore, the county reported more than 100 new cases July 27 and each day from July 30-Aug. 1. There have been an average of 94.43 new coronavirus cases reported each day over the last seven days.

During the same weeklong period, the county also confirmed that 643 Fort Bend County residents recovered from the coronavirus and 10 died from it.

One hundred Fort Bend County residents have died from the coronavirus, according to the latest data available from the county.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, there have been a total of 7,191 confirmed coronavirus cases in Fort Bend County.

The county is reporting that 3,498 of the people who tested positive for the virus have recovered. This number, combined with the 100 coronavirus-related deaths, leaves 3,593 active coronavirus cases in the community.

Coronavirus hospitalizations

Over the course of the last week, the number of coronavirus patients being treated at Fort Bend County hospitals declined steadily, reaching a recent low of 114 on Aug. 2, according to data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council.

The last time there were 114 coronavirus patients or fewer in Fort Bend County hospitals was June 19.

On Aug. 3, the number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations jumped up some, with a reported 173 patients receiving treatment.

Similarly, the number of patients being treated for the virus in Fort Bend County hospitals’ intensive care units decreased from 63 as of July 28 down to 33 as of Aug. 2, SETRAC data shows. As of Aug. 3, there are 39 coronavirus patients in county ICUs.

Coronavirus in Sugar Land and Missouri City

Missouri City—with 808 confirmed coronavirus cases in the Fort Bend County portion of the city and 66 cases in the Harris County portion of the city—has 11.58 coronavirus cases per every 1,000 residents.

Sugar Land has a total of 762 confirmed coronavirus cases and a rate of 6.83 cases per every 1,000 residents.

For comparison, Fort Bend County as a whole has somewhere in between, with 8.86 cases per every 1,000 residents.

At the ZIP code level, both Missouri City ZIP codes—77459 and 77489—have the greatest number of cases per 1,000 residents among area ZIP codes.
