1. League City seeks to acquire Walter Hall Park from Galveston County
League City officials are pursuing the acquisition of Walter Hall Park from Galveston County, allowing the city to use the park’s storage facilities for maintenance equipment, thus avoiding the higher cost to purchase undeveloped land for storage.
League City City Council and city staff discussed acquiring the 86-acre park from the county at a July 14 workshop, where Chin Wei, League City’s director of parks and cultural services, said the city had “outgrown its current maintenance facilities.”

2. Pearland taco spot to close in August
Tacos Toreados in Pearland will close on August 16 due to the planned Broadway Street expansion project by the Texas Department of Transportation, according to a social media post from the business.
The eatery will continue offering catering services as it searches for a new brick-and-mortar location, according to the post.

Arôme, a locally owned bakery with old-fashioned menu options, is on its way to Kirby Drive.

5. Houston ISD students to begin 2026-27 school year Aug. 10
Houston ISD students will be welcomed back to campuses Aug. 10, but families might have a few tasks left to complete before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
New HISD students must be enrolled, while the Annual Student Update must be completed for returning students, according to HISD’s website.

Texas-based Tacodeli has opened its third Greater Houston location in Katy, restaurant officials confirmed.
Tacodeli has a wide selection of tacos available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to its website. Options include chorizo, egg and cheese taco, the Mexico City sirloin taco and the frontera fundido chicken taco.
