First Colony Mall has opened a new outdoor play area, officials confirmed.

The candy-themed play area—which was a creative spin on the mall's location in Sugar Land—was designed to create a welcoming space where families can take a break, spend time together and enjoy the property in a new way, mall officials said.
The project was supported by the Sugar Land's Commercial Revitalization Grant which aims to revitalize some of the city's oldest commercial properties, Community Impact previously reported.

Shenea Bankhead, general manager of First Colony Mall, said as mall officials thought about how the space could better serve the community, they kept coming back to families.
"We see parents and grandparents visiting the property every day, and we wanted to create a place where kids could play, explore and burn off some energy while families spend time together," Bankhead said. "The new play area is a simple addition, but it's one that helps make First Colony Mall an even more welcoming place for our community to gather and connect."
