Shelor has also served as a volunteer, dispatcher and communications manager for Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Services as well as an arson investigator with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. Shelor attended the Harris County Sheriff's Office Academy in 1991 and has since served in various law-enforcement positions with the police departments for the cities of Bellaire and West University Place. This year Shelor is retiring from law enforcement with 29 years of service.
A member of Kinsmen Lutheran Church, Shelor married his wife, Marie, in 1998, and the couple has two children, Morgan, 13, and Eli, 6.
