Harris County ESD 11 nears completion of second phase of construction for new campus in Spring

Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11 commissioners are projecting a Feb. 28 grand opening for its new administrative building, officials said during the board’s Jan. 24 meeting.

The announcement is coming as the district nears completion of the second phase of construction for its new 43-acre campus, which entails remodeling the district’s old facility to include its main administrative building, 911 call center, billing center, and fleet maintenance and deployment facilities.

According to Ricardo Martinez—president of Martinez Architects, the firm responsible for designing and managing the project—the grand opening would be held prior to the board’s Feb. 28 meeting, which is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

“We’re getting very close to the very end here,” Martinez said, noting a presentation would be prepared for the celebration. “We would report on the history of the ESD and ESD 11 Mobile Healthcare.”

Martinez noted the district planned on honoring former Commissioner Fred Grundmeyer, who did not seek re-election in last year’s election, by dedicating a gazebo on the new campus in his honor.

“He’s been critical to the district,” Martinez said.

ESD 11 officials said the first phase of construction, which wrapped up in August, was projected to cost around $18 million, but inflation pushed that figure to around $23.7 million. The second phase of construction is projected to cost an estimated $11.7 million.
