Following Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement that Texans will no longer be required by state law to wear a mask effective March 10, officials with Spring and Klein ISDs said they are awaiting further direction from the Texas Education Agency before they make any changes to existing mask policies.
Current KISD policy requires that all KISD staffers, community members and students in grades pre-K-12 wear masks while on KISD property. This includes, buses, hallways, common areas, athletic areas, stadiums, repair centers and anywhere else people may congregate.
KISD officials issued the following statement shortly after Abbott's announcement March 2:
"This afternoon, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-34 rescinding the statewide mask mandate and opening Texas Businesses to 100% capacity effective next Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Klein ISD is currently reviewing the Executive Order and seeking guidance from the Texas Education Agency. As we have done so successfully all school year, Klein ISD will continue to follow current TEA health and safety guidance. All safety protocols will remain in effect until further clarification is obtained. Klein ISD thanks our School community for your continued patience and understanding."
