Klein ISD reschedules graduation ceremonies, prom due to coronavirus pandemic

Klein ISD rescheduled graduation ceremonies for Aug.1 at NRG Stadium, permitting there are no COVID-19 related restrictions, Superintendent Jenny McGown announced with KISD's high school principals in Facebook Live video April 21.

Caps and gowns will be available for pick-up the week of May 11 and there are currently no restrictions on the number of guests able to attend the in-person ceremony. However, this is subject to change according to the development of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the ceremony's rescheduling, all seniors who have met the necessary academic requirements will officially graduate on May 30. Academic transcripts will be sent by mail, and information on receiving high school diplomas is forthcoming. District officials said the KISD also plans to hold virtual events celebrating the Class of 2020 on May 30. For more information or to share ideas, visit https://kleinisd.us/classof2020.

District officials also announced prom for each of the district's five high schools has been rescheduled to take place in July at the Klein Multipurpose Center.

"We're going to be hosting the prom for all five high schools in the ballroom at the Klein Multipurpose Center so that we can secure dates now and keep costs low, as we know that there are so many families in our community who are facing financial hardships during this very difficult time," McGown said in the video.

Rescheduled dates for the proms are as follows:

• Klein Oak High School: July 17
• Klein Forest High School: July 18
• Klein Collins High School: July 23
• Klein Cane High School: July 24
• Klein High School: July 25
