Big decisions made in 2015

Addressing data management The Spring ISD board of trustees approved district reorganization and changed its data-management processes following transcript irregularities that occurred in July that affected hundreds of students.

Improving literacy Responding to literacy concerns, SISD approved a comprehensive literacy plan. The development plan has a three-year implementation and emphasizes an improvement in literacy concepts such as phonetic awareness.

Teacher retention The Spring ISD board of Trustees approved a 6 percent raise for teachers and raised the minimum starting teacher salary to $51,500 per year to help better recruit and retain talented teachers.

Top issues for 2016

Community communication In 2015 the board approved ELEVATE, a Web-based platform to answer questions, solve problems and hear concerns from the community.  The district looks to improve its communication processes and continue to connect with SISD stakeholders.

Safety To enhance the safety of all students, staff and administrators in schools, the district expects to improve its alarm, surveillance and digital radio communication systems for all schools as part of Every Child 2020, the district’s five-year improvement program.

Early childhood programs After creating the first preschool within the district at Lewis Elementary School  through a partnership with AVANCE Houston, SISD wants to create more preschool options.
