On June 20, Christian Youth Theater Houston celebrated its 20th season with a red carpet event, Community Engagement Director Mary Ramsower confirmed. The fine arts company’s first summer camps were held in 2006, and it has since provided the Greater Houston area with musical theater education for two decades.
About the program
CYT is a national after-school theater arts training program dedicated to helping kids and teens grow in their singing, dancing, acting, improvisation and technical skills.
Offered in two-hour classes throughout the school year, students can receive individualized training from instructors in the discipline of their choosing, according to the company’s website. This class model pushes students to build their character and confidence through participation in workshops, auditions and hands-on production experiences.
Parents and students interested in signing up for a session can view the current open classes along with their age requirements, scheduling information and pricing online.
Something to know
With branches nationwide, CYT allows enrolled students ages 8-18 to audition for productions. The most recent productions performed by its Houston branch include “My Son Pinocchio,” “Magic Treehouse” and “Bye Bye Birdie,” Ramsower said.
CYT Houston aims to produce 10 to 12 Broadway-style musicals every season, according to website details. Ramsower told Community Impact that the company traditionally runs three fall shows, three spring shows, two to three winter shows and two to three summer shows every year.
