On a warm evening at The Colony, music drifts across the amphitheater as a local band plays to a crowd that spans generations. The scene offers a perfect snapshot of daily life in this Bastrop-area master-planned community, where intentional design and resident-driven programming shape the experience just as much as the homes themselves.
A lifestyle built around connection
At the heart of The Colony is a lifestyle program that has gained regional recognition. The community was named a finalist for Lifestyle Program of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin, a nod to both the breadth of its offerings and the way they resonate with residents.
“We’re always thinking of the long-term value for community [members],” said Joey Najera, a representative of the developer, Hunt Communities.
That focus comes to life through a steady calendar of events hosted throughout the year, many of which are open to the broader Bastrop area. The programming is designed to bring people together in meaningful ways, with events such as holiday celebrations, outdoor concerts, farmers’ markets, pickleball tournaments and more.

Rather than centering activities in one location, events are spread across multiple amenity centers. This encourages residents to explore and engage with different parts of the neighborhood.
Equally important is how those events are chosen. The Colony’s Homeowners Association team works closely with residents, gathering feedback through regular interactions, surveys and on-site conversations to ensure programming reflects the community’s needs.
Amenities that evolve with residents
The community’s amenities reflect that same resident-first philosophy. Instead of pre-determining features, developers have taken a responsive approach, adapting plans based on how residents use the space.
Walking trails, parks and amenity centers are designed to encourage connection, and an on-site elementary school keeps the community’s youngest residents close to home. Even the landscape serves a purpose: unique features like converted detention ponds offer opportunities for kayaking, fishing and outdoor recreation.
As demand has shifted, so have the amenities themselves. In one case, plans for a splash pad were replaced with a pool after residents voiced a greater need for additional swimming space during the summer months.
Upcoming additions will continue that trend. A new amenity center, Treehouse Park, is expected to open in the early fourth quarter of this year. It will feature a large pool, pavilion space, and outdoor gathering areas designed for family cookouts and casual get-togethers.

Housing options for every stage of life
Beyond lifestyle and amenities, The Colony stands out for its wide range of housing options. With 10 builders and a variety of home styles, the community caters to first-time buyers, growing families and empty nesters alike.
Prices range from the mid-$300,000s to more than $900,000, offering flexibility across different budgets and life stages.
Del Webb’s addition of an active adult community further expands those options, providing a dedicated space for residents 55-plus, while still allowing access to the broader trail system and shared amenities.
A growing community in an emerging market
The Colony is positioned within one of the region’s fastest-growing corridors, near major employers, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and downtown Austin.
After more than two decades of development, The Colony is now roughly 65-70% complete, with several years of growth still ahead. The long-term vision remains clear: a fully realized community where connection, convenience and quality of life intersect.
"I'd love to jump into the future and see everyone living in The Colony,” Najera said. “That's what I'm most excited for: seeing the end vision and seeing how everything comes together."
