Life at The Colony in Bastrop is built for connection. Picture neighbors relaxing under a shaded poolside patio, families grabbing a bite from on-site food trucks and weekends packed with pickleball, markets and holiday lights.

This vibrant atmosphere doesn't happen by accident; it's woven directly into the master plan, with amenity centers strategically placed throughout the neighborhood, all connected by trails, so every resident has a social hub near their front door.

That network just expanded with the debut of The Treehouse: a state-of-the-art amenity center featuring a 5,000-square-foot pool, a sprawling shaded patio and stunning views. Developer Hunt Communities prioritized completing construction early, and they were able to open the center the week of Labor Day, 2026.

“We really pushed hard to get it open sooner than anticipated, while it’s still hot outside, so folks can swim,” said Joey Najera, a representative of Hunt Communities.

Since opening, the feedback has been great, with residents celebrating the large space and beautiful views. Developers are now installing outdoor grills on the patio, transforming The Treehouse into the ultimate neighborhood spot for family cookouts and summer celebrations.

What events does The Colony offer?

The Colony has a dedicated homeowners association team and lifestyle coordinator who plan and host events throughout the year.

“The lifestyle programming brings the community together,” Najera said. “As a developer, we build all of these amenities, and the builders build these beautiful houses; the intent is to have community [connection], and that only gets activated with our HOA and lifestyle coordinator. We have a great team.”

Some events are kept exclusively for residents, while many invite friends, family and the surrounding Bastrop community to participate.

Programming includes:

  • Pickleball and fishing tournaments

  • Easter egg hunts and pumpkin patches

  • Monthly community markets featuring local artisans and food vendors

  • Pool parties for Memorial and Labor Day

  • Winter Fest, taking place on Dec. 11 this year, complete with a planned visit from a live reindeer

  • A trail of lights that opens to the public at Lake House Park in November

This year will be the second annual trail of lights.

“The trail of lights blew me away last year,” Najera said. “I always go to the one at Zilker Park, and this was like a miniature version of that. It was really beautiful.”

What’s next at The Colony?

This summer, The Colony broke ground on Phase 1 of its next major gathering space, The Trading Post: a food truck site adjacent to Lake House Park and its pavilion.

It will feature two food truck areas equipped with permanent utility hookups, comfortable seating, overhead festoon lighting and trail connections to nearby amenities.

Targeted to open in Q1 2027, The Trading Post is situated across from a neighborhood park and catty-corner to Colony Oaks Elementary School, which is located directly inside The Colony.

Designed to serve as a welcoming rest stop for the broader community, it is designed to offer parents a quick spot for morning coffee after school drop-off, a place for neighbors to meet during evening walks or an outdoor space to enjoy live music at the pavilion.
