Dr. Sally Miranda of Hear in Texas is celebrating 30 years of practicing audiology this year.

After selling her practice in Midland in 2021, she moved to New Braunfels to open Hear in Texas at 2967 Oak Run Pkwy, Ste. 315. Dr. Miranda said she opened her practice with the goal of providing specialized services that New Braunfels residents couldn’t get anywhere else.

“We're the only locally owned and operated audiology practice in New Braunfels,” Dr. Miranda said.

Hear in Texas offers hearing health services such as:
  • hearing assessments
  • advanced hearing aid technology
  • pediatric hearing care
  • cochlear implants
  • tinnitus management
  • cognitive screening
  • hearing aid repair
  • earwax removal and more
Dr. Miranda sees patients of any age, from newborns to adults, and takes a medical-model approach, meaning she looks at each patient comprehensively to identify the problem.

“We want to look at every aspect that affects somebody's hearing,” Dr. Miranda said. “We want to know where the issue is happening. Sometimes we can see things like heart disease or diabetic changes in the hearing.”

Hear in Texas also offers cognitive screenings to test the ear-brain connection. With this comprehensive approach to hearing health, Dr. Miranda helps prevent things like cognitive decline and dementia.

Dr. Miranda said she loves audiology because she is able to make a significant difference in her patients’ lives.

“It’s so fitting that my anniversary is in February,” Dr. Miranda said. “It's the month of love and I love what I do. Every day it's something different. I get to see people and interact with them so it makes it enjoyable all the time.”

Dr. Miranda said the most rewarding part of her job is being able to restore her patient’s hearing.

“You see a person with a huge smile on their face because now they can hear again,” she said. “You're giving them back their life.”

Dr. Miranda is helping train the next generation of audiologists by inviting students to her practice on a regular basis.

“It's always exciting to be able to share knowledge, tips and tricks with up-and-coming audiologists,” Dr. Miranda said. “That's probably my biggest contribution to the audiology field.”

Dr. Miranda said technology has continued to advance during her time in the audiology field. She said there are many benefits, such as people having more access to hearing aids, but visiting an audiologist in person allows the patient to have a more personalized experience.

“The advantage of coming to an audiology clinic is that we can really look at the problem and take it from a prescriptive method,” she said. “We can prescribe the exact thing [patients] need.”

Hear in Texas staff members understand seeking help for hearing can be difficult and are available to offer empathy.

“When [patients] come here, they're going to get compassionate care,” Dr. Miranda said. “We're not going to try to give them something that they don't need. We treat them as if they were our parent or child sitting across from us.”
