First responders and law enforcement officers can enjoy a free meal Wednesday night at Cane Rosso, located at 4715 S. Lamar Blvd., Sunset Valley, from 5-9 p.m. The event, organized by the pizzeria and Sunset Valley Mayor Rose Cardona, recognizes local officers for local contributions made during the serial bombings and investigation that occurred earlier in March and gives community members an opportunity to meet their neighbors, according to a news release from Cardona’s office. In addition, 15 percent of all proceeds during the event will go to Austin ISD to kick-start fundraising efforts for a parent support specialist position at Sunset Valley Elementary School, the release states. The position, which would support families who need access to food, shelter and medical services, is expected to cost $35,000 annually. A happy hour is scheduled from 5-7 p.m., with a brief break for remarks from 6-6:15 p.m. Free pizza for first responders and fundraising efforts will run from 5-9 p.m.
