Hwy. 71 will get a new right turn lane to accommodate visitors to PromiseLand West Bible Church's Dream City complex.
During its Aug. 23 meeting, the Austin City Council moved forward with the project by approving three resolutions to:
- Authorize negotiations with PromiseLand West to fund the lane;
- amend the Austin Transportation Department's capital budget;
- and authorize negotiations with the Texas Department of Transportation to build the lane.
Because the project is in a state right of way, TxDOT must approve and construct the project.
According to agenda backup documents, the state cannot directly contract with private entities for construction in the state right of way, so the city will act as an intermediary.
