Neighbors and neighborhood associations have strongly opposed the amphitheater for noise, traffic and land use reasons.

Later phases of construction may include expansions to the amphitheater's backstage, a parsonage and a chapel.

Heflin has said that the church repositioned the amphitheater on the property so that the noise from outdoor events would have less of an impact on nearby homes. The amphitheater is said to include noise dampening design features.

Since breaking ground five months ago, workers have missed 31 days due to weather issues, Heflin said. Some tasks are required by law to be completed in a 24-hour period, and workers must begin construction at 2-4 a.m. to finish those tasks on time, he said.
