Central Health announced March 1 it will open a new clinic in Del Valle in collaboration with The University of Texas School of Nursing and Travis County Emergency Services. The 5,000-square-foot center will be located next to the Travis County Emergency Service District No. 11 Fire Station and provide primary care, behavioral health and dental care, according to a news release from Central Health. It is expected to open by the end of 2018. The UT School of Nursing and Travis County ESD 11 are part of the Eastern Travis County Health & Wellness Collaboration, a coalition of community partners created by Central Health to address needs in Eastern Travis County, the news release stated. ESD 11 Fire Chief Ken Bailey attended Central Health's Feb. 28 board of managers meeting and spoke in favor of collaboration among Travis County Emergency Services, the UT School of Nursing, Central Health and other health-related entities. "[Residents] will get one team that's taking care of them instead of the ambulance, the fire department, the emergency room and their primary health care provider, so we're very excited about being a part of this," Bailey said at the meeting. A renewed effort to provide services in southeast Travis County comes following a lawsuit filed by southeast Travis County residents in October and Central Health CEO Mike Geeslin's stated goal to provide services in Travis County's "Eastern Crescent" at the Feb. 28 meeting.
