In 2014, St. David’s South Austin Medical Center received Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, or FACT, accreditation. The recognition indicates St. David’s meets standards for cellular therapy product collection, processing and administration for autologous bone marrow transplants and stem cell collection, said Brett Matens, chief operating officer at St. David’s South.
“It tells the patients that they can have confidence that our program has been through a rigorous review assessing our facilities’ compliance with a number of standards and processes,” he said. “People can have confidence ... in their bone marrow transplant care at our facility.”
In November, President Barack Obama and Penny Pritzker, U.S. Department of Commerce secretary, gave St. David’s a 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. St. David’s is the first health care system in Texas to receive the award, said David Thomsen, St. David’s division vice president of quality.
St. David’s was also named a Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures in 2014, he said.
