Storm shelter available at select Austin libraries, park and recreation facilities

The city of Austin extended hours at several public libraries and facilities run by parks and recreation on March 2 to provide safe shelter during the forecast thunderstorm.

A total of 20 recreation centers and four public libraries will remain open through 10 p.m. March 2. The full list of open shelters is available at www.austintexas.gov/alerts.

According to the National Weather Service, residents of Austin can expect possible severe storms, with potential for strong winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

The storm is forecast to be severe between 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening, March 2.
