A group of elected officials in Travis County convened to dedicate the new Onion Creek Bridge on Dec. 4.
The new bridge is 650 feet long with two 11-foot-wide lanes, according to a Dec. 4 press release. The old bridge was converted into a pedestrian bridge.
While design for the bridge was completed in 2018, a Federal Emergency Management Agency clearance and right-of-way acquisition delayed the project, which finished Sept. 14.
Voters approved $3 million in funding to make the bridge higher, an effort to avoid flooding, as a part of a 2011 bond. The money went toward design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations and construction, according to Hector Nieto, Travis County public information officer.
