Traveling through the Austin airport this March? Here's what you need to know

All Transportation Security Administration checkpoints leads to all gates inside the main terminal. Checkpoints have different screenings available including:

• Checkpoint 1 includes general screening, known crew member priority/premium screening, ADA screening, CLEAR
• Checkpoint 2 includes TSA PreCheck
• Checkpoint 3 includes TSA PreCheck and CLEAR
• Checkpoint 4, the newest checkpoint, includes general screening

The South Terminal will remain open through March 31, and this will serve as its last spring travel season before closing to make way for expansion plans.

Airport officials encourage travelers who will park at the airport to reserve parking at least a day before their flight online.

For curbside pickup and drop-off, both the upper level departures and lower level arrivals will be available to travelers.

What else?

The airport is currently undergoing a multiyear expansion program designed to upgrade facilities and increase capacity to address the record-breaking passenger traffic in recent years. The expansion program includes several projects, such as a new baggage handling system, facilities and passenger gates, various airfield upgrades, and the construction of new taxiways and a second terminal.

A total of about 21.67 million passengers departed and arrived at ABIA in 2025, marking the year as the third busiest for the airport. Passenger traffic marked 2024 as the airport’s second busiest year, following 2023 and 2022’s record-breaking totals.
