Ongoing projects
Oak Hill Parkway
Project: The 7-mile stretch of highway has been undergoing a $677 million facelift since 2021. The Texas Department of Transportation is currently reconstructing Hwy. 290 in Oak Hill, transforming the existing four-lane, undivided roadway to a six-lane divided highway with new frontage roads and 14 miles of shared-use paths, according to TxDOT documents.
Update: Additional lanes on the eastbound and westbound Hwy. 290 mainlanes opened. More entrance and exit ramps will open later this summer. The Scenic Brook Drive crossing at SH 71 recently opened.
Timeline: 2022-26 (total project)
Cost: $677 million allocated for the entire project

I-35 Capital Express South Project
Project: TxDOT will add two high-occupancy vehicle lanes, a southbound bypass lane, pedestrian and bicycle paths.
Update: TxDOT began construction of elevated managed lanes in June, resulting in temporary closures throughout July.
Timeline: 2022-28 (total project)
Cost: $548 million allocated for the entire project

William Cannon at Bluff Springs intersection repairs
Project: The city is making improvements to the intersection in response to residents’ safety concerns. According to a news release from the city, the intersection will be replaced with concrete, rather than asphalt, which lasts longer. The project also includes Americans with Disabilities Act improvements.
Update: The city began improving the intersection July 1. During construction, commuters can expect temporary lane closures, traffic signal interruptions and increased travel times.
Timeline: July-September
Cost: $920,000
Funding source: city of Austin 2018 mobility bond
