New bar and outdoor entertainment venue opens in South Austin

The project was a combined effort by locals Rick McMinn, Josh Hazzard and Brett Berry, who, according to the release, have more than 20 years experience creating businesses in the hospitality industry.

“Armadillo Den has been four years in the making, and our shared goal was to make this project a great space for staff and patrons alike,” Berry said in the release. “With a focus on speed and hospitality, we have built this two-story building from the ground up and gave local craftsmen a lot of freedom to have fun with the space.”

Armadillo Den is open while following state and county guidelines for COVID-19, according to the business.

The bar joins a number of drinking establishments that have opened in Southwest Austin in recent months. Easy Tiger opened a new South Lamar bar on Oct. 16, while winery C.L. Butaud and Wine For The People joined to open a new room in Dripping Springs on Dec. 4.

Three new breweries have also opened, including Meanwhile Brewing Co. in Southeast Austin, Fitzhugh Brewing in Dripping Springs and Last Stand Brewing Co.’s new South Congress Avenue location.
