YMCA of Austin to reopen area facilities June 1

The YMCA of Austin will be reopening its area locations June 1 under new health guideline and with some services limited.

According to a May 27 news release by the organization, the Townlake YMCA, Southwest Family YMCA, Northwest Family YMCA, Springs Family YMCA, Bastrop YMCA and Hays Communities YMCA facilities will be reopening June 1 after being closed since March 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Other facilities will reopen with limited or adjusted offerings. The East Communities YMCA will open its fitness center and pool while reserving space for summer camp programs, the Y at Camp Moody will be open for outdoor group classes and family programs and the YMCA North Austin Rec Center facility will offer summer camps through Aug. 1, according to the organization.

According to the organizations, facilities will reopen at 25% capacity, reservations will be required for group classes and lap swimming, member access will be limited to one hour per visit; showers and locker rooms will be closed and there will be health screenings at check-in. Members are also encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled sessions or classes and to wear masks when checking into the facility. Equipment has been spaced apart to promote proper social distancing.

Additional offerings will be introduced later in June, including open swimming, sports and youth programs and summer camps.
