Evangeline Cafe celebrates 20th anniversary in Southwest Austin

Cajun-Creole restaurant Evangeline Cafe celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Southwest Austin community Sept. 8.

Owner Curtis Clarke, who is originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, decided to open a Cajun-Creole restaurant to bring his Louisianan culture to the Southwest Austin area.

"I'm glad to be a part of the Austin restaurant scene," Clarke said.

Evangeline Cafe sells gumbo, frog legs, boudin, oysters, po'boys, sandwiches and more. The cafe also offers live music Mondays through Thursdays.

General Manager Molly Prince and Clarke said they have a lot of return customers who become regulars.

“I mean on a daily basis I say ‘hi’ to someone by name probably 30 different times, so we have so many regulars that come in, and I feel like they feel that we’re a part of their regular routine, whether they’re getting the same thing or trying something new,” Prince said.
