Mass grading begins on Amazon site in Round Rock
Dirt is turning on the Amazon site at CR 172 in Round Rock, after receiving approval for mass grading of the site in March. This is the first step in the process of preparing the site for construction, said Bradley Dushkin, Round Rock's director of planning and development services. To continue with plans to build a 223,285-square-foot warehouse on the property, Amazon representatives will meet with the city for a site development permit, he said.

Heirloom Georgetown developers expect early 2026 groundbreaking, seek City Council input
A master-planned community called Heirloom Georgetown is making strides in Georgetown almost one year after the project was first proposed to council members in April 2024. Officials with Columnar Investments, the developer, expect to break ground on the roughly 620-acre project in early 2026, Executive Director John Landwehr said in an email to Community Impact.

Georgetown officials question 362-acre Atkinson Ranch development proposal
Georgetown City Council members discussed a proposed 362-acre residential development seeking development approvals during an April 8 workshop meeting. The project received several concerns from city officials, ranging from its wastewater plans to architectural proposal. Home construction company PulteGroup is looking to build a development called Atkinson Ranch near Williams Drive and Indian Springs Road, according to the April 8 presentation.

Cedar Park breaks ground on new hotel and convention center
Members of Cedar Park City Council came out April 14 to mark the beginning of construction for a new hotel and convention center. The city officially broke ground on the future site of a Marriott Hotel at 750 E. New Hope Drive. The hotel will be Cedar Park’s first full-service hotel, according to previous reporting. The building will include approximately 300 rooms, in addition to a 30,000-square-foot meeting space, a full-service restaurant and bar, a separate breakfast cafe and a swimming pool.

Texas House approves creation of new state cybersecurity command at UTSA
Lawmakers moved one step closer to creating a 'cyber command' responsible for state cybersecurity matters with overwhelming approval in the Texas House. House Bill 150 from state Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R-Southlake, would create the Texas Cyber Command out of The University of Texas at San Antonio. After a House committee review in March, the full body passed the legislation 130-13 on April 16, and it now heads to the Senate for consideration. The Texas Cyber Command would take over many digital security responsibilities currently held by the Texas Department of Information Resources. The command would also expand cybersecurity training requirements and move Texas into an "operational posture" with a new threat intelligence center, critical incident response unit and digital forensic lab, Capriglione said.
