“Proceeds from Garden Party support the Umlauf’s year-round culture, educational and community programs,” said Katie Robinson Edwards, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum executive director, in a news release. “Our youth education, monthly Family Days, Umlauf After Dark, museum tours, public lectures, exhibitions and outreach programs are possible thanks to the generous support of our restaurants, guests and members of the UMLAUF. We could not be more grateful for the community support year over year, so we can do the same.”
The background
Umlauf, located next to Zilker Metropolitan Park, was originally home to acclaimed Charles Umlauf, a professor at The University of Texas at Austin. The site was gifted to the city of Austin in 1985, and included his art studio and a collection of 168 sculptures. The sculpture garden and museum officially opened to the public in 1991, according to the release.
“The excitement that we see around the Umlauf is incredibly uplifting,” Robinson Edwards said. “From kids learning all about art at Summer Camp up to the artists who exhibit out of our gallery, the appreciation for what the Umlaufs created here is palpable.”
