SXSW Conference & Festivals to offer shortened, 'reimagined' experience in 2026

“This gives music fans an opportunity to enjoy seven nights of showcases instead of the six we’ve had for [the] last several years,” the SXSW announcement reads. “It also allows us to continue the work the Music Festival programmers have done over the last decade in paring down the numbers of showcasing artists while spreading the shows out over a greater part of the event. This creates a more curated experience for attendees and artists while retaining the discovery that the music festival is known for.”

Some context

The festival change is a result of the Austin Convention Center’s closure and demolition next month. According to the SXSW website, the event has been held at the facility since 1993.

The redeveloped center will feature expanded indoor and outdoor spaces, and is expected to reopen in winter 2028 ahead of SXSW 2029, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.
