Residents and commuters will now have access to a website that provides updates on projects in the Hays County Road Improvements Program.
The details
The Central Texas and Hays County region has experienced exponential growth, and county officials said improvements are needed to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow. Projects in this program focus on both existing roadways and future infrastructure needs, Transportation Director Aaron Jones said in a news release.
“We are working to provide as much information to our communities as possible,” said Jones in the news release. “The County is committed to keeping the public informed throughout this process and sharing project information as it becomes available.”
The background
Hays County voters approved the 2024 Road Bond package in November 2024. In June 2025, a Travis County district judge ruled that the $440 million road bond package was void. According to previous reporting from Community Impact, the decision was made after an October 2024 lawsuit filed by four Hays County property owners cited multiple violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act, or TOMA.
The county is currently appealing this ruling while working to keep projects moving forward, according to the Hays County Road Improvements website.
In Sept. 2025, the commissioners court approved the use of no more than $240 million of certificates of obligation to move forward with most of the projects previously slated for 2024 road bond funding, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
