San Marcos grew at a modest mid-2 percent rate for the second year in a row, according to U.S. Census estimates released today.
The San Marcos population increased 2.2 percent in 2015-16, a slight decrease from the 2.5 percent growth rate the year before.
But from 2012-14, no city grew faster than San Marcos. In the last two years, the city has ranked outside the top 75 in growth.
However, Texas continues to dominate the growth rankings. Conroe, located near Houston, increased its population by 7.8 percent between July 2015 and July 2016, ranking tops in the country above Dallas-area suburbs Frisco—6.2 percent—and McKinney—5.9 percent.
