Developer height request pushed to January

Carson said the delay was necessary because of a last-minute proposal by the project's structural engineering consultants that will allow an upgrade to the building materials used in the project.

City staff would have recommended approval of the request for additional height, according to information included with the meeting's agenda.

The proposed development would be built on the sites of Triple Crown, Cedars Mediterranean Restaurant and Eskimo Hut. Triple Crown owner Allen Manning owns the land his venue sits on, and he said if the development goes through and his property is sold to Carson, he will relocate his business elsewhere in San Marcos. Andrew Choi, owner of Eskimo Hut, said he is planning to relocate near I-35, and Cedars General Manager Omar Aldmour said there are no immediate plans for his restaurant to reopen if it closes.

The commission will consider the issue at its Jan. 14 meeting.
