Construction on Kyle's FM 150 expected to last through the summer

The bridge on Post Road over the Blanco River that was destroyed by flooding in 2015 is due to be replaced, and construction is expected to begin this summer or fall. The Texas Department of Transportation closed bids on the project May 2, and Capital Excavation had the lowest bid at $905,345. The awarding of the contract is pending verification of certain required contractor documents.

3.  Aquarena Springs Drive overpass

The city of San Marcos is partnering with TxDOT to construct an overpass over the Union Pacific Corp. railroad tracks on Aquarena Springs Drive in San Marcos. When completed, the $20.7 million overpass will feature two travel lanes in each direction as well as access roads—or “Bobcat lanes”—on both sides of the overpass. Construction of the overpass is ongoing, and traffic has been switched to the Bobcat lanes and through a new signal at Post Road. TxDOT officials said there will be intermittent lane closures throughout the summer as beams are set for the bridge.

4.  FM 150 improvements

TxDOT is constructing a center turn lane and shoulders on the portion of FM 150 in Kyle from near Lox Lane to Hwy. 21. Intermittent lane closures and lane shifts are taking place on the road in preparation for construction to begin.

5.  SH 45 SW construction

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority has partnered with TxDOT and Hays and Travis counties to construct SH 45 SW, which will connect FM 1626 with MoPac in Austin. As of mid-May, construction crews were working on embankment, drainage and bridge work within the project area. Crews were also continuing drainage work on southbound FM 1626 as well as a section of a future shared-use path. Hays County contributed $5 million to the $100 million project. When completed, the road will feature two lanes in each direction.

Timeline: late 2016-2019
