What are community organizations doing to help those in need in Hays County?
I learned a lot about the organizations providing assistance to those in need in San Marcos, Kyle and Buda while researching my front-page story this month.
Community Action Inc., in collaboration with other groups providing services throughout Central Texas, is working to build a shared campus for nonprofits throughout the area. The group owns a 29-acre property on Hunter Road and is looking to raise $1.6 million to finish the first phase of the $4 million project, which will be known as the Village of San Marcos.
One of the themes from the recent conversations about poverty and homelessness in San Marcos has been a lack of a centralized location, or “clearinghouse” for those experiencing poverty in the area to receive assistance. The Village of San Marcos could be one solution to that problem.
