With hurricane season comes the increased chance of flooding, which is a topic of a front-page story in this month’s issue.
We talked with local experts regarding flood plains, a term we’ve all used but probably have limited knowledge about unless our home or business is located within one.
The interactive FEMA map is a great way for Hays County residents to find if their address is within the latest flood plain designations.
Local officials have worked diligently over the years to use all available data to give feedback for a Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, mandated plan. The results are a parcel-by-parcel analysis in which some parcels have been added to the flood plain designation, and others were deleted from it.
Our local communities appear to have one goal: protecting property and lives when floodwaters come to Central Texas.
