7 things to know in San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and Hays County this week, July 17-22

Here are seven news items to note if you live in the San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and Hays County area.

1. The city of San Marcos has implemented Stage 1 drought restrictions.

Stage 1 drought rules restrict use of sprinklers to one day per week on a designated weekday determined by address. Irrigation using hose-end sprinklers is allowed on the designated weekday before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Irrigation with automatic irrigation systems is allowed on the designated weekday beginning at 8 p.m. and ending the following morning at 8 a.m. Hand watering and using soaker hoses or drip irrigation is allowed on any day and at any time. Stage 1 rules also limit at-home car washing, washing of impervious surfaces and foundation watering to one day per week. Wasting water is prohibited.

2. The San Marcos CISD board of trustees meets tonight.

The board of trustees will discuss multiple items related to the district’s 2017 bond, which was approved by voters in May. The board will discuss methods of procurement for the bond projects as well as appointment of a bond oversight committee. The board will also discuss scheduling a meeting for a public hearing on the fiscal year 2017-18 budget and tax rate. The board meets at the San Marcos CISD Central Administration Building, 501 S. 3. San Marcos City Council meets Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The agenda includes an item related to discussion and possible direction on amendments to the city’s charter. Registered voters will be able to vote on the amendments on the November ballot. City Council meets at City Hall, 601 E. Hopkins St. The agenda can be viewed here.

4. Buda City Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m.

City Council holds a budget workshop to discuss utility rates, costs of operating a wastewater treatment plant and other items related to the fiscal year 2017-18 budget. City Council meets at City Hall, 121 S. Main St. The agenda can be viewed here.

5. Kyle City Council meets Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Council will discuss and consider approval of a conditional use permit to allow IDEA Public Schools to build a school in the city at the intersection of Goforth Road and Bluestem. 6. The Greater San Marcos Partnership hosts BIZTalks: The Entrepreneurial Process and Networking Happy Hour on Wednesday. 

Joah Spearman, founder and CEO of Localeur, discusses entrepreneurialism and the story behind his company at the event. Attendees are able to network after the talk. 7. Hays County hosts a community trash collection event Saturday.
